Tesla’s wireless power

February 23, 2014, mkrause

Wireless power transmission is going to be mainstream technology in the not so distant future. The IEEE-sponsored 2nd conference on “wireless power transfer” will be held in May 2014 (www.wptc2014.org). Topics of the first conference, held at Perugia (Italy) in 2013, were: basic technologies for wireless power transfer; power sources and applications of wireless power; and standardization. There were talks about an Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), featuring a Flexibly Coupled Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) System, and talks about Baseline System Specification (BSS). As one can see, the industry is realizing the potential and the environmental plus of a wireless power system. The really astonishing fact is that no trace of the word “Tesla” could be found in the papers. Why?

Tesla Wardenclyffe monument

October 19, 2013, mkrause

On September 23, 2013, the president of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic unveiled a new monument to Nikola Tesla on the compounds of Tesla’s former Wardenclyffe laboratory on Long Island. A large number of Serbian diaspora and other fans of Tesla listened to a dozen speeches, prayers, songs, and music; to raise Tesla’s profile and maybe to have a place to worship the inventor eternally. For a good read about the complex ‘Tesla worshipping’ I recommend http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/making-nikola-tesla-a-saint-makes-us-all-dumber-1308034624. May Tesla R.I.P.

Tesla Mystery Lady

June 4, 2013, mkrause

Hi,

several years ago, I found this photograph in the Westinghouse archives in Wilmington, PA. It sat in a folder labelled “Tesla Personal belongings”, and no further information attached to it. In my opinion, the lady pictured could possibly be Mrs Dorothy Skeritt, sectretary to Mr Tesla for a long time. Does anybody has another clue? What about the footer, “. Jun 68 .”? Would love to get some feedback. Thank you.

New Tesla movies | Inman book in Germany | TESLA @ DESY

March 8, 2013, mkrause

Here is some news about latest developments in Tesla movies: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fragments-From-Olympus-The-Vision-of-Nikola-Tesla/181802521854082 with trailers @YouTube et al. I can’t ignore the feeling that this film (“Tower to The People”) will tell the story of Tesla’s vision of wireless transmission of energy, and the utterly uninteresting Tesla FBI case, again. To transpose Tesla’s magnificent, century-old vision into today’s world would have been a greater challenge to meet. Another film is in the pipeline, too: “Tesla- Ruler of the World”, produced by Vladimir Rajcic, with Nicolas Cage as Edison and, of course, Christian Bale as Tesla. One can only hope for the best. Matthew Inman’s bestselling book “How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You” is available in Germany now. Maybe Mr. Inman’s spirit will spark up both film productions. Cross fingers. The photography shows the superconducting high-frequency TESLA cavity that will be used for the new world-class linear collider, developed at DESY, Hamburg, with some Tesla in the background.

Wardenclyffe laboratory

November 10, 2012, mkrause

At long last, finally, Wardenclyffe laboratory has been saved. With tremendous help from the world-wide Tesla community, fueled by enthusiasm and under guidance from Mrs Jane Alcorn, Friends of Science East, and others, Wardenclyffe property was bought from AGFA Corporation. Now, the real journey begins: what to do with the laboratory, sketched out by Stanford White, ruined by Peerless Photo Co., saved from becoming playground for the local fire brigade?  Wardenclyffe is the only remaining laboratory of Nikola Tesla; it is a gem of East coast industrial architecture – but there is nothing left than bricks and mortar, and maybe the spirit of Tesla’s. May the new owners be guided by the significance of this place, and what it could mean for the future, an energy option based on sustainability and clean energy.
